Cobalt Carbonate

Cobalt carbonate is a chemical compound with the formula CoCO3. It is a reddish-brown powder that is insoluble in water but soluble in acids. Cobalt carbonate is often used as a precursor material for the production of other cobalt compounds.

In the context of lithium batteries, cobalt carbonate is one of the materials that can be used as a precursor for the cathode material in lithium-ion batteries. The production of cathode materials from cobalt carbonate typically involves several processing steps, including calcination, milling, and coating, to produce cathode materials such as lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2).
