Cobalt chloride is a chemical compound with the formula CoCl2. It is an inorganic salt that appears as a blue crystal or powder. Cobalt chloride is used in a variety of applications, including as a humidity indicator, catalyst, and dye. 

In the context of lithium batteries, cobalt chloride is used as a precursor material for the production of cobalt oxide (CoO) and cobalt hydroxide (Co(OH)2), which are important cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries.
